Who are we ?

Terre Promise is a Quebec-based seed company founded in 2014. They passionately cultivate varieties of vegetables, herbs and old or forgotten flowers, carefully selected for their beauty, taste and history.

Our mission: to uncover these treasures of the past and make them accessible to all gardeners—whether to nourish, beautify, or simply reconnect with nature. At Terre Promise, every seed is a promise of life and diversity to be nurtured.

We are proud to be a local seed producer

At Terre Promise, Quebec and Canadian ancestral varieties rub shoulders with finds from all over the world.

Each variety has its own characteristics, making it unique. From generation to generation, varieties are selected for their flavor, color, shape, or resistance to diseases, pests, or climatic hazards.

Some have fallen into oblivion throughout history, due to their inability to withstand long-distance transport or their fragility when handled as practiced in today's mass food system. We are rehabilitating them and sharing them with you to ensure greater nutritional diversity.

Our seeds are a guarantee of success and discovery in the garden that we love to share with curious gardeners, passionate horticulturists or committed farmers who love the pleasures of the land.

Terre Promise's primary mission is to produce seeds and introduce the public to carefully selected varieties chosen for their flavor, color, shape, and resistance to disease, pests, and climate.

We are also committed to documenting the history of certain heirloom varieties to preserve Quebec's cultural heritage.

Finally, we share our knowledge through training and practical workshops, enabling gardeners, farmers, horticulturists, and artisanal seed producers to cultivate, select, and pass on these varieties in turn.

  1. Create together: often, great achievements are not the work of one person, but of many people. At Terre Promise, teamwork and the exchange of knowledge is the basis of our achievements.

  2. Recognition of the work of others: The varieties that we cultivate have been bequeathed to us by people who have safeguarded them from year to year. Sometimes First Nations peoples or elders who have the memory of our cultural heritage at heart. We owe them respect.
  3. Humour and happiness: We are a team of passionate people who love to get their hands dirty and work with pleasure to offer quality products.
Our history

The Terre Promise project began over ten years ago in a community garden in Montreal. At that time, Lyne Bellemare was interested in permaculture and self-sufficiency, which led her to want to produce her own seeds for her favorite vegetables. Through conversations with other gardeners, she realized that even the most experienced were buying their seeds without giving it a second thought and not saving them from one year to the next. She then turned to traditional seed saving techniques.

For over ten years, Lyne has been passionate about the challenges related to seeds, production techniques, and the preservation of endangered varieties. As many heirloom varieties have disappeared over time, she understood the importance of sharing them to prevent them from being forgotten. She also observed that cultivating heritage varieties allows for the development of plants that are more resistant to climate change and disease. These better-adapted varieties require less water and fewer chemical inputs such as fertilizers or pesticides.

In 2014, the seed company Terre Promise was officially founded. For 10 years, the company was located on Île Bizard in Montreal, where more than 250 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers were cultivated on permanent raised beds. The seeds were sown, harvested, and stored in a local workshop. Production was inspired by permaculture and agroecology: no mechanical tilling, the use of mulch (wood chips, dead leaves), and landscaping that promoted biodiversity and pollinators. Everything was done with respect for the work of the people who had passed on these varieties, whether they were former gardeners or Indigenous communities. At that time, Terre Promise produced 95% of the varieties it sold on-site, often rare, open-pollinated seeds, carefully selected to enrich its catalogue. Since its inception, the company has worked tirelessly to safeguard cultural and shared heritage.

In 2023, Terre Promise relocated to Sherbrooke to cultivate over three hectares of land. Then, in 2025, Lyne Bellemare passed the torch to Serres St-Élie Production. The new owners arrived with an ambitious vision to support the company's growth. Their goal: to offer a catalogue of carefully selected seeds, fostering rich and varied biodiversity, and allowing all gardeners to discover the joy of gardening while ensuring the success of their crops. Terre Promise is now the promise of a world of gardening accessible to all, where each seed carries an invitation to discovery. The seed collection offers a unique selection designed to democratize the cultivation of flowers, herbs, plants, and vegetables. Each seed is carefully chosen and presented with expertise, reflecting a deep passion for nature and offering a distinctive experience true to the brand's spirit. Designed to inspire and support gardening enthusiasts on a daily basis, these seeds awaken emotion and joy.

With simplicity at the heart of its new approach, Terre Promised breathes freshness and creativity into everything from beautifying living spaces to celebrating precious moments. Season after season, the company unveils new varieties, enriched by experience, to delight gardeners of all levels.
